Hi, all! This is my first Post on my very own blog that I self-host on my very own -albeit rented and virtual- server! I shall take this opportunity to introduce myself in a few words, in case you don’t know me which, let’s be honest, is highly probable.

My name is Aron August Hohmann, I’m a Sociology student, tech enthusiast and FLOSS advocate from Pécs/Vienna. I believe that FLOSS and privacy are essential for any healthy democratic country. I’m also a staunch believer of cooperation and self-determination among the smallest units of society. Having been born and raised in Hungary, I must say that I’m worried though, especially with the latest developments in the EU (Encryption-Backdoor, the ruling of the Court of Cologne in regards to Tutanota). I also enjoy videogames, classical music, languages and martial arts.

What to expect from this blog?

I’m planning on writing about a wide array of topics, all of which are important to me. I am definitely going to write a rather long Post about my digital journey thus far (e.g. how I escaped the clutches of evil American mega-corporations). After this initial Post, I am going to continue with a series of articles, centered around step-by-step explanations and recommendations for a healthier, more free and more sovereign digital life. Other than these, you may also look forward to the following topics:

  • History, Genealogy & Identity
  • Community, Society, Organizations, States & how it all fits together
  • Alternative & FLOSS Technologies
  • DIY (from homeservers to woodworking)
  • My life (Travel, maybe some Life Pro Tips)
  • And maybe others…

I also made the decision to publish everything in three languages, namely English, German and Hungarian. I encourage everyone to comment and critique my Posts (though I have disabled the comments on the blog itself to preserve my sanity and save resources).
